The goal of a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center is to remove excess wrinkled skin, stretch marks, and fat from the lower abdomen, and if indicated, the underlying muscles are tightened and strengthened. The result is a smoother, flatter tummy with a narrowed waistline. The majority of our clients from Mansfield, Arlington, and the Fort Worth area are women who have developed abdominal wall laxity and weakness with unsightly stretch marks, due to the effects of pregnancy. Unfortunately, despite a strenuous diet and exercise program these candidates are unable to eliminate their “pooch”.
Dr. Michael Thornton uses an artistic approach to help you regain a more youthful appearing figure with the tummy tuck procedure, by minimizing the appearance of scars and combining body contouring liposuction for maximum results. The tummy tuck procedure is performed under general anesthesia and is done on an outpatient setting. Some clients may request an overnight stay in the hospital for observation and recovery time is individualized.
During your private consultation, Dr. Michael Thornton completes a thorough medical history and performs a careful examination, including the identification of underlying hernias or previous scars. Most importantly, he discusses your realistic expectations and formulates a personal surgical plan that is best suited for your body anatomy. The extent of the tummy tuck depends on the amount of excess skin, fat and the laxity of the underlying abdominal muscles. In circumstances where there is minimal weakening of the muscle and minimal skin excess, a mini tummy tuck can be performed using a minimally invasive endoscopic abdominoplasty technique. In addition, for those individuals requiring liposuction of the upper abdomen and flanks, a lipoabdominoplasty or Avelar abdominoplasty technique can be performed to provide the best aesthetic result. Lastly, because of Dr. Michael Thornton’s general surgery background, he has the added ability to repair any underlying abdominal hernias or umbilical hernias that may complicate your tummy tuck procedure.
Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are expected after a tummy tuck and resolve within a few weeks. Pain medications and specific postoperative instructions are provided. Strenuous physical activities must be avoided and a support garment must be worn for several weeks to aid in the healing process and maximize your results. Since a tummy tuck is considered major surgery, it takes time to see the full benefits. Every attempt is made to minimize the scar length and position so you may choose to wear low cut garments.
