SKIN RESURFACING
Mansfield. Arlington. Fort Worth. Dallas. TX
Skin resurfacing removes the outer layers of facial skin to reduce or eliminate smoker lines, wrinkles, skin discoloration, and mild to moderate acne scars through techniques including, chemical peel, dermabrasion, and laser resurfacing. Skin resurfacing procedures stimulate new skin growth, resulting in a fresher, more youthful appearance.
You may be a candidate for skin resurfacing if your facial skin is damaged or wrinkled, if you have vertical lines around your mouth or smokers lines, if you have facial scars caused by injury, acne, or chicken pox, or if you have brown spots, freckles or blotchy skin. At Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center, we use a variety of techniques to perform skin resurfacing, including medium to deep to deep chemical peel or dermabrasion.
A medium or deep chemical peel is used to remove wrinkles, tighten skin, and reduce or remove freckles or age spots. A medium or deep chemical peel is always performed and monitored by a physician, whereby Dr. Michael Thornton personally applies the chemical solution, usually 88% phenol, but he may also use higher concentrations of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and resorcinol. The chemical solution causes the surface layers to peel, thus leaving newly regenerated skin that is smoother and less wrinkled.
When your skin has an uneven texture resulting from acne scaring or injury, dermabrasion may provide cosmetic improvement. The process of dermabrasion is similar to mechanical sanding…like sanding wooden furniture. The more elevated areas of skin or “peaks” are smoothed down to the same level as the “valleys” to diminish the variations that cast shadows when light strikes the face. Because the skin of your face is fairly thick, dermabrasion can be performed on all facial areas except the eyelids. Dermabrasion should not be confused with microdermabrasion, as dermabrasion mechanically sands the deeper medium and deeper layers of the dermis to a controlled depth thus promoting new collagen formation.
