At Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center we perform Brachioplasty or arm lift to improve the aesthetic contour of your upper arms.  Clients may commonly refer these excess skin areas as “bat wings”.

Liposuction brachioplasty is an excellent procedure for clients with good skin and mild to moderate fat.  Liposuction alone may provide a high level of satisfaction without unsightly incisions or scars. However, those clients with loose skin will require a surgical arm lift or skin excision brachioplasty procedure. This procedure is more invasive and will result in a scar along the inner portion of your upper arm between the elbow and armpit. A mini brachioplasty is a combination of upper arm liposuction along with removal of a small crescent-shape of skin in the armpit to hide the scar. Lastly, there are occasions where the incision may need to extend a short distance from the axilla down to the chest wall to remove excess lateral chest skin (along the bra strap) in a surgical procedure known as an extended brachioplasty or “L” brachioplasty.

What can I expect during my consultation?

During your consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations.  Although well qualified, we choose not use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians assistants to perform your consultation.  Dr. Thornton will complete a thorough medical history and perform a careful examination to determine if you are a candidate for either liposuction brachioplasty, a mini brachioplasty, or a full brachioplasty procedure.

Where will my surgery take place?

All skin excision and extended brachioplasty procedures are performed at Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, a AAAHC certified out-patient surgery center, located in Mansfield, Texas. On average, the procedure will take 3 – 5  hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the case.  Liposuction only brachioplasty can be performed in our private operating room as a minimally invasive procedure using our Lipotherme laser liposuction technology

Expertise of Dr. Michael Thornton

During his cosmetic surgery fellowship, Dr. Michael Thornton was specifically trained in brachioplasty surgery and has successfully performed a full array of various brachioplasty procedures including liposuction brachioplasty, skin excision brachioplasty, mini brachioplasty, and extended “L” brachioplasty.  Dr. Thornton attends yearly national cosmetic surgery meetings and participates in advanced abdominoplasty courses to offer you the latest techniques available.
