Gradual aging invariably causes your skin and underlying soft tissue and fat on the back of your hands to lose its youthful tone and elasticity. In addition, long-term hand exposure to the sun and other environmental factors combine to create skin changes, brown spots, lines, and wrinkles. Overtime, your hands lose the protective layer of fat and collagen causing the back of your hands to appear deflated and skeletonized exposing underlying veins and tendons.

Hand rejuvenation is actually a combination of separate procedures all designed to restore and rejuvenate your hands to a more youthful appearance.  If there is loss of soft tissue exposing your veins and tendons, then Dr. Thornton will carefully transfer harvested fat to the back of your hands in a process called fat transfer, thus restoring lost volume.  Following fat transfer, if there is evidence of sun damage, dark spots, and wrinkles, CO2 laser skin resurfacing or IPL treatments may be performed.  New advances in cosmetic surgery, combining fat transfer, fractional CO2 laser and IPL treatments are available at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center to help our clients restore and even reverse the signs of aging to their hands.

What can I expect during my consultation?

During your consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations for hand rejuvenation.  Although well qualified, we choose not use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians assistants to perform your consultation.

Where will my surgery take place?

Hand rejuvenation, hand fat transfer, and hand CO2 laser skin resurfacing are all performed in our private operating room using oral sedation and local nerve blocks.
