Sclerotherapy – Spider Veins
Mansfield, Arlington, Ft Worth

Sclerotherapy is an office based procedure performed by Dr. Michael Thornton at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center to treat uncomplicated spider veins.  The treatment involves the injection of a sclerosing solution called Asclera® into spider veins.  Spider veins are very small red and blue veins located mainly on the legs.  These spider veins are close to the skin surface and look like little red spider webs.  Spider veins are caused by heredity, age, gender (mainly women), pregnancy, obesity, and prolonged standing or sitting.

About Asclera®

Asclera® (polidocanol) Injection is the only FDA-approved sclerosing agent used in a procedure called sclerotherapy for the treatment of uncomplicated spider veins and reticular veins.  Asclera works by damaging the inner lining of the vein causing the vein to clot and collapse.  Over time, the spider vein is replaced with connective tissue and eliminated.

We choose to exclusively use Asclera sclerotherapy for spider veins at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center due to its FDA-approval and safety profile as compared to other sclerosing agents.

Consultations are complimentary at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center.  We happily perform Asclera sclerotherapy of spider veins on clients from across the DFW Metroplex including, Mansfield, Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas, Kennedale, Grand Prairie, Burleson, Corsicana, Ennis, Midlothian, Red Oak, Waxahachie, Corsicana, Duncanville, DeSoto Plano, and Tyler, Texas.

What can I expect during my consultation?

During your consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations for spider vein sclerotherapyAlthough well qualified, we choose not use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians assistants to perform your consultation.  During your consultation, Dr. Thornton will assess the extent and quality of your spider veins and determine if you are an acceptable candidate to undergo spider vein sclerotherapy using AscleraUnfortunately, we do not treat varicose veins using laser endovenous ablation technology at Mansfield Cosmetic Surgery Center.  If you have varicose veins you will be referred to our vascular surgeon partner for a separate consultation.

A typical Asclera session lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes depending upon the amount of spider veins to be treated. Following treatment, you will be advised to wear compression stockings continuously for 2 to 3 days and even up to several weeks.  The results are not immediate but will diminish over several weeks.  Individual results may vary depending on spider vein severity, skin tone, and number of treatments.  Sclerotherapy sessions may need to be repeated until satisfaction is complete.
